Water: keep soil consistently moist during germination, water in the mornings

Soil:  cover with 1/8 inch of well-drained soil, rich in organic material

Temperature: 15 to 20 degrees Celsius (58 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit)

Spacing: space seeds 2 to 3 inches apart in rows about 12 to 15 inches apart

Germination Time: 7 to 14 days


Carrots should be direct sown.  In northern climates, sow after the ground is workable for harvest 2 1/2 to 3 months later.  In the south, sow in January to March or in September for overwintering.  Cooler weather produces more flavorful carrots.  Weed often.  Harvested carrots should be stored in a cool (1 degree Celsius / 34 degree Fahrenheit) and humid environment to prevent wilting.
