Chives have been cultivated in Mediterranean regions for 5,000 years and a popular herb for soups, potatoes and salads.  Chives are among the easiest herbs to grow from seed.  They can be planted directly outdoors in a sunny location or started indoors and transplanted after eight weeks.  Once established, chives will regrow from their bulbs year after year and only require occasional thinning to keep producing.
