Cucumbers are typically available in two varieties -- pickling (which tend to be shorter and thicker with bumpy skin) and slicing.  Cucumbers grow on a vine and benefit from trellising.  As a sub-tropical plant from India, cucumbers benefit from full sun and warmth.  Expect male flowers at first before both male and female flowers form.
