Dill, like most herbs, is best fresh and is commonly used to flavor pickles, egg and potato salads and fish.  Dill does not transplant well so direct sowing is preferable.  It is a useful addition to a butterfly garden as swallowtail butterflies will lay their eggs on dill and their larvae devour it.
