Lavender is a challenging herb to grow as it is finicky about soil and atmospheric conditions.  It does not do well in heat or humidity and pH and nutrients are more critical than with other herbs.  Also, germination rates are low, particularly if the seed is not fresh.    Germination rates can be improved by wrapping the seed in a moist paper towel and keeping in a refrigerator for a week prior to sowing.  Despire the challenges, growing lavender from seed is rewarding once you see your first fragrant blooms.
