Sun: full sun

Water:  keep soil slight moist during germination; the evening primrose prefers a dry soil once it becomes established.

Soil: cover with 1/16 inch of soil, use well-drained soil

Temperature: 18 to 21 degrees Celsius (65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit)

Spacing: 3 pounds per acre for a meadow

Germination Time: two to four weeks


The Evening Primrose does not typically bloom in the first year after planting.  The plant will develop a taproot in the first year and bloom in the second year.  The flower's name comes from the fact that blooms typically open in the late afternoon and close up before dawn.
