Sun: full sun to partial shade, does not tolerate heat well

Water:  keep soil moist during germination, once established, water when dry

Soil:  plant 1/2 inch deep in a well-drained soil

Temperature: 19 to 21 degrees Celsius (66 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit)

Spacing:  plant 3 inches apart, thinning to 12 inches once the seedlings are established

Germination Time:  one to two weeks


Originally from South America, Four O'Clocks get their name from their habit of blooming in the late afternoon.  Varieties are available in many different colors including white, pink and yellow.  Deadhead regularly as four o'clocks will self sow readily.  Seeds and plant are poisonous to eat.
