Water: keep soil consistently moist during germination, do not overwater, but water regularly

Spacing: space seeds 8 inches apart in rows about 1 foot apart

Germination Time: 6 to 10 days


Leeks are slower growing than their cousin, the onion.  Allow plenty of time by starting indoors (as early as January in shorter season locations).  They can be sown indoors in mid-March for warmer climates.  Leeks are milder and sweeter in flavor and probably most widely known for their use in soups including potato leek and Vichyssoise.
