Sun: preferably full sun, but will tolerate partial shade

Water: keep soil moderately moist during germination, do not overwater.  Once established, mexican hat is drought tolerant.

Soil: cover with 1/16 inch of soil, use rich, well-drained soil

Temperature: 20 to 24 degrees Celsius (68 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit)

Spacing: 1 pounds per acre for a meadow, or 8 to 18 inches

Germination Time: three to six weeks


Mexican Hat is a stunning flower with red petals surrounding a dark cone.  They are native to the midwestern US, but have become naturalized throughout North America.  They do well in hot, humid climates and are drought tolerant.  Mexican hat typically blooms from June until September.
