Water: keep soil consistently moist during germination, do not overwater, but make sure plenty of water is provided in hot and dry weather.

Soil: cover with 1 inch of light, well-drained soil, high potash, low nitrogen

Temperature: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius (75 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit)

Spacing: space plants 1 foot apart in rows about 3 feet apart

Germination Time: 6 to 14 days


Okra is another plant that does best in warmer climates, but it has a relatively short growing season so it can still be grown in northern climates.  Harvest the pods young as they will toughen with age.  Wear gloves to avoid the spines when harvesting.
