Germination Time: 4 to 10 days 


The edible onion comes in two varieties, a short-day variety and a long-day variety.  The short-day varieties are better suited to southern US climates and the long-day varieties to northern US climates.  Seeds can be sown as soon as the ground is workable in early spring for an autumn crop.  For a June crop, seeds should be sown in August of the prior year (mulch overwinter in zones 5 and lower).
