Water: keep soil consistently moist during germination, do not overwater, but make sure plenty of water is provided in hot and dry weather.

Soil: cover with 1/4 inch of fertile, well-drained soil

Temperature: 27 to 30 degrees Celsius (80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit)

Spacing: space seeds 1 inch apart in rows about 4 feet apart, space 36 inches after thinning

Tomatillos are commonly used in Mexican cuisine, particularly salsa verde or green salsa.  Proper support must be provided for the plants as they grow up to six feet tall.  Tying to a trellis or using a cage is recommened.  Tomatillo fruit mature with a husk which is poisonous and should be removed prior to preparing the fruit for consumption.
